I am obsessed with business trends because they help us make sense of our world.
Trends reveal where we are as a society and they point to where we are headed. For me, trends are compelling because they help us know ourselves.
When I am on a conference stage or presenting virtually, I often see proverbial light-bulbs go on over the heads of audience members as they suddenly rush to jot something down.
I am thrilled to say they are not taking notes about what I am saying, but rather they are capturing their own ideas, inspired by the new trends they are discovering.
Whether I’m facilitating an online workshop for an exclusive group of business leaders or presenting an innovation keynote to thousands, I feel blessed to be in a position to provoke so much professional creativity. Few things make me happier than the emails and phone calls I receive from people telling me I inspired them to create something new and – dare I say – innovative.
I’m thinking of the hotelier in Iceland who was motivated by recent trends in travel to build a popular new kind of experiential resort.
Or the IT team leader in Argentina who was inspired by the latest trends in big data and mobile technology to develop a profitable app for sports stadiums.
What gets me out of bed in the morning is not money or fame or my dog licking my face, but more importantly, the satisfaction of benefiting others.
I do what I do because I love helping people and companies leverage trends to create our exciting future.
