Business 2.0 - A Memorable Event

About twelve years ago I was invited to attend the annual Business 2.0 conference. This prestigious event was scheduled to be held in Monterey Bay, California. Mark Furrer who was Business 2.0's Conference Director at the time did an excellent job of planning and staging the event.

Upon arrival and once we checked-in at the conference desk we were given a travel bag on wheels. The travel bag was full of interesting gifts from bottles of wine to laser pointers and each gift was either branded with the Business 2.0 logo or carried the brand of one of the event sponsors. Promotional items like these, ordered from companies like Quality Logo, to me, are one of the highlights of any such event. In fact, they have become an industry standard as they are often part of the incentive offered for people to attend. And, who doesn't like useful, interesting items that are free?

There were a number of outings and other events planned for the attendees and dynamic keynote speakers like Dan Tapscott and Harry Dent Jr. opened each day of the conference. One evening dinner was in the form of a sumptuous fish and seafood spread inside the Monterey Bay Aquarium and each person there was given a gift certificate to spend at the aquarium gift shop.

Every last detail was thought out and taken care of. For example, late in the afternoon, when we returned to our hotel room to dress for dinner, there came a knock on the door and there stood a hotel employee with yet another interesting gift! Talk about being and feeling pampered!

Once you have your conference attendees on-site you have a captive audience.

There are many ways to make your event memorable and numerous ways to make it unforgettable. You want to have good speakers with valuable messages to share at your conference, and you want to offer an extension of your appreciation, so your attendees remember not only what a great experience was had, they are excited and talk about it with friends and colleagues long after the event is over, just as I am now. When an event leaves a positive lasting impression, your attendees become your brand ambassadors and customer evangelists.
